Electronic Action Figure Toy Battery Electrode Corroded?

Hi, I have a 1977 electronic battery operated action figure. The 'negative' battery electrode is corroded. Is there a way to fix tha?. From what I can tell from the other electrodes look to be copper (i could be wrong). Thanks!!
