Did my gold and copper crayon corrode?

I have an old box of crayons that I opened up recently and I have two metallic ones, Gold and Copper. I noticed that both looked like a really dark teal. I started drawing with it and noticed the teal color was just on the outside. Did my crayons corrode? If not, what happened?
