Yay for anti-Catholic history revision?
I disagree with this, but not because I think the catholic church ushered in any "dark ages". As a Protestant at least somewhat familiar with church history, I'm not willing to cede that church history belongs to the RCs - but that's another matter. I don't think the concept of a "dark ages" is helpful at all. I'm sure the fall of Rome lead to social instability around the Mediterranean for a good while. However, it was a power vacuum the church (in Europe) and later Islam (in other parts of the Mediterranean) stepped in to fill. And there was no great loss of ancient knowledge during the period. Rodney Stark is helpful for pointing this out.
