Will boiling cooking oil corrode metal?

I've got an engine that put a nasty oil/carbon build up on my spark plug. I bought a new one now I'm just wondering if I lower the old one into a pot of hot oil will it damage the spark plug? This is a low risk experiment, I just figured the non-polar nature of the oil on the spark plug would go into solution with the hot oil.
